Hello! I am a mid 20's female living in upstate New York. I work as a Nurse in Pediatric Intensive Care. I am using this blog as an opportunity to process and share my thoughts and experiences as I work to focus my energy on health and happiness in a way different than I have in the past. I love to cook, bake, dance, drink coffee, drink wine, and talk. Mostly I love to talk while drinking coffee or wine.

The Chocolate Chip Cookie

July 27, 2015October 11, 2016 Kateri4 Comments

Let’s start from the very beginning, a very good place to start… I’ll be honest, I have considered a food blog for a while now. I had a very successful blog going for a few years about my life, then it became about nursing, and to be honest, somewhere along the way I just got…… Continue reading The Chocolate Chip Cookie

The Fall

June 2, 2015October 11, 2016 Kateri1 Comment

I always hated sledding. That feeling, in the moment, when you can’t bring air into your lungs as you move quickly, downhill, through space. Everything is rushing so fast that, on your own, you feel as though you lack the strength to bring in a single breath. It feels like falling. That split second when…… Continue reading The Fall

Our Voice

I can’t imagine not having a voice. I said to my fiancé as we made our way through an exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York this past February. I don’t think anyone can imagine YOU not having a voice. He replied lovingly as he planted a kiss on my forehead. We…… Continue reading Our Voice

Something a Little Different

January 9, 2015October 11, 2016 Kateri6 Comments

A few months ago, following my most recent HuffPost article I was contacted by a fellow nurse blogger to be featured in a segment she does about nurses around the country. Eileen is a nurse now living in San Francisco and focusing her energy on teaching, speaking, and coaching. She leads seminars and maintains a…… Continue reading Something a Little Different

A Thursday Throwback

December 11, 2014October 11, 2016 Kateri4 Comments

I just opened my email to kind and unexpected “Happy Anniversary” from the site I use for my blog. Two years. Today marks two years that I have been writing and you have been reading. But in reality, many of you met me long after this blog was created and far from it’s original intention.…… Continue reading A Thursday Throwback

Becoming Her

December 2, 2014October 11, 2016 Kateri4 Comments

Over a recent vacation in my childhood home, I spent some time sorting boxes that have accumulated over the years. I triaged their contents for their importance in my life. Each box had been in a storage unit until recently, now they filled what was once my brother’s wood shop. Box after box of extra…… Continue reading Becoming Her

What I’ve Learned About Love

October 28, 2014October 11, 2016 Kateri1 Comment

While I work on my next post to share with you all here, I wanted to show you something else I have been working on. Below is a link to an article I wrote for the Huffington Post, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson’s Love Matters campaign. Please check it out and let me know what…… Continue reading What I’ve Learned About Love

Wash Your Finger Pointing Hands

October 14, 2014October 11, 2016 Kateri8 Comments

Ebola is upon us, its official, because everyone is officially freaking out. On the one hand, it is no surprise that a nurse was the first to contract the virus here on American soil given the hands on, prolonged contact, fluid ridden role we play in health care. Globally, nurses have been on the front…… Continue reading Wash Your Finger Pointing Hands

Lessons from a Year as Just a Nurse

September 1, 2014October 11, 2016 Kateri3 Comments

I learned a lot in Kindergarten, but unfortunately, and contrary to popular belief, I didn’t learn everything. It felt like I learned a lot in nursing school, but it still wasn’t enough. I have learned a lot in nursing, in my years thus far of being a nurse at the bedside. But most of all,…… Continue reading Lessons from a Year as Just a Nurse

Nurse

August 27, 2014October 11, 2016 Kateri7 Comments

A year ago today I posted to my hardly read blog about nursing. Apparently my feelings were universal as you, my readers, shared the post globally which to date has been read over a million times on this blog and even more by readers of the Huffington Post. In honor of this important milestone for…… Continue reading Nurse
